DEFGLIS Christmas Message 2018

181224 Nathan White 1

As the year draws to a close, DEFGLIS has an opportunity to reflect on our successes, our challenges and our opportunities. We reflect on great events like our participation in Mardi Gras festival, the DEFGLIS Ski Trip, member-led networking around the country, and our fourth and most successful Military Pride Ball to date.

A huge thankyou to our principal sponsor Price Waterhouse Coopers, and our other sponsors Pride In Diversity, Scott Electrics, Thales Australia and Defence Bank for supporting this event and sharing our passion for LGBTI Inclusion.

As a volunteer organisation, DEFGLIS is only as strong as the amazing contributions of its membership base. The work of our members allow us to achieve our important objectives of supporting LGBTI Defence personnel, veterans and their families. DEFGLIS would like thank our incredible volunteers for their efforts and sacrifices. If you would like to get involved helping with future events, send us a message on Facebook or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

It’s an exciting time at DEFGLIS, as we transition our board members and office-bearers. We congratulate and farewell our outgoing President Vince Chong for the significance of his contribution to the association, and warmly welcome your newly elected board members, my new colleagues Karen Dwyer, Luke Headley and Connor Haas. The 2019 board is well positioned to continue the important work of the association. We look forward to expanding our services in 2019, especially in the professional development and LGBTI leadership development space.

This season is not an easy time for everyone in our community - often making loneliness and social isolation more difficult to overcome. Reach out to friends who may be on their own or going through challenging times, especially those who are not surrounding by their family. Look out for one another, and offer support where you have the capacity. Reach out to friends and colleagues who are continuing their operational work across the Christmas and New Year period, whether in Australia or overseas.

To all of us from DEFGLIS, be safe and enjoy your holidays. Take care of each other, and we look forward to an exciting 2019 together as we support, strengthen and educate the ADF through LGBTI inclusion.

Happy Holidays!
