From the Board: August Update


The DEFGLIS Board is committed to providing greater transparency and accountability to our members. This update provides key outcomes from the latest Board Meeting, held on 01 August 2019.

On the first Thursday of every month, the Board meets to discuss and re-sync on how we are meeting the organisational mission and vision of DEFGLIS. Here's the key outcomes of our August Meeting:

  • Tiered-membership model. The Board has agreed to develop a new paid membership model which will give members additional extras, such as discounted access to events. The Treasurer, Don Robertson, has been working hard in the background to develop this model and enhance our organisational efficiencies through technological upgrades.
  • Advocating health policy. The Board is currently working with Defence to improve training and understanding of health centre professionals to improve health outcomes for members of diverse gender and sexuality. We are lucky to have two medical professionals on our board who provide expert advice and liaison.
  • Military Pride Ball. This year's Military Pride Ball is selling fast! The Pride Ball Committee, led by National Events Director Andy Maskell, is working hard and is on track to deliver the best Military Pride Ball yet. The President has called that the Ball will sell out this year, so make sure you get your tickets before it is too late.
  • Increasing Board visibility. We're implementing strategies to increase the visibility of the Board Members and their work. You may have seen various articles written by members of the Board, and updates like this one will be ongoing! Keep an eye out for board bios which will be published on the website in the near future.
  • Unacceptable behaviour policy. We've developed a behaviour policy that will apply to all members and their guests at DEFGLIS events. We want our events to be in safe and respectful environments, and this policy will protect members and guests from unacceptable behaviour. The policy will be published and made available on our website shortly.
