PrEP, the preventative medicine that radically reduces the risk of HIV transmission, will be subsidised via the Pharmaceutical Benefits Schedule (PBS) from 1 April 2018.

The Australian government made the announcement in a press release today to provide $180 million of benefits to assist the fight against HIV.

The treatment involves taking PrEP once per day in order to reduce the risk of HIV infection for people who are a medium to high risk of HIV infection.

The rainbow tribute in Canberra was a joint collaboration between the ACT Government and DEFGLIS.

Cate McGregor, the most senior transgender member to serve in Defence, placed the rainbow wreath on behalf of the DEFGLIS association and reflected on the rich diversity of veterans who have fought and died for their country.

Defence and DEFGLIS joined with 200 distinct groups to march in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade, that featured a stunning array of creative concepts from all walks of the LGBTI community.

The contingent of over 150 personnel was led by Air Vice-Marshal Tracy Smart, AM - the Commander of Joint Health and Surgeon General of the Australian Defence Force.

The people in this parade are immensely proud to serve and have gathered from all over the nation to show how proud they are to be part of Australia's defence and warfighting capability

Warrant Officer of the Navy Gary Wight also proudly led the many soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen who volunteer their spare time to march with pride for their service and to celebrate the diversity that brings strength to the many of the warfighting roles that they undertake.
