Lieutenant Riley Bradford was appointed into the Australian Regular Army in January 2016 as a General Service Officer. They graduated from the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in International Political Studies and Indonesian, within the Chief of Defence Force Students Program. Riley then posted to the Royal Military College – Duntroon, where upon graduation they were commissioned into the Australian Army Aviation Corps. In 2020 they posted to the Australian Army Research Centre to complete an Honours thesis on Australia’s securitisation of climate change in the South Pacific. Riley is currently undergoing rotary pilot training.
Riley has been actively involved in the Defence LGBTI Community since joining the ADF. Whilst at ADFA, they developed training packages and a staff guide to assist in diversity and inclusion initiatives that benefitted staff and other trainees. They have been a member of DEFGLIS since 2016, and was elected to the Board in 2020. As a Director, Riley currently fulfils the position of Transgender & Gender Diverse (TGD) Representative. They are passionate about improving inclusion and support for all TGD members in Defence.
Outside of work and DEFGLIS, Riley enjoys adventurous training, especially rock climbing, hiking and back-country skiing. They particularly love spending time in the Australian Alps, and have represented Army in biathlon and cross-country skiing.
